SUZHOU, CHINA, September 8, 2020 - The Third China Medical Device Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition was kicked off. The finals of optical-electromechanical products and AI were held in the Suzhou Artificial Intelligence Industrial Park.MGI’s remote robotic ultrasound system, MGIUS-R3 won the “First Prize of Optical-electromechanical Product and AI”.
China Medical Device Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition is a national innovation and entrepreneurship competition for medical industry guided together by the Department of Science and Technology for Social Development of Ministry of Science and Technology and China National Center for Biotechnology Development (abbreviated as CNCBD), and organized by the Medical Device Industry Technology Innovation Alliance. The main purpose of its holding is to stimulate the innovative vitality of clinicians, enterprises and scientific researchers, strengthen the connection between innovation and clinical applications and capital, and deepen cooperation in all aspects of the medical device industry’s “production, research, research, and supervision”, thereby promoting the continuous innovation and development of China's medical device industry.
MGI’s remote ultrasound robot is the world’s first ultrasonic device that can achieve “remote real-time diagnosis” without the need for a physician to be at the same location as the patient. The product combines robotic technology, remote real-time control system and high-resolution ultrasound imaging to overcome the distance limitations of traditional ultrasound diagnostic methods and solve the shortage of medical resources. In line with the theme of the competition “Focusing on Translational Medicine Meeting Actual Clinical Needs and Strengthening Technological Innovation and Innovative services”, MGI has been committed to making great innovations, enabling medical imaging, and making high-quality medical resources accessible to everyone.
Making Great Innovations to Provide High-quality Medical Resources for All
MGI’s remote ultrasound robot combines robotic technology, remote real-time control system and high-resolution ultrasound imaging. MGIUS-R3 can equip multiple sensitive ultrasound probes on its robotic arm, which can be operated by a doctor through a control system up to 1,000 kilometers away. Its humanized design can enable both doctor and patient to achieve real-time communication through the interactive screen, and its flexible manipulator system can simulate manual operation throughout the process to perfectly reproduce expert techniques. The patients can maintain communications with doctors on screen throughout the diagnosis.MGIUS-R3 received Class III medical device qualification by the China National Medical Product Administration (NMPA) in May 2020, allowing it to enter the Chinese market and provide state-of-art long-distance ultrasound diagnostic services for all.
During the COVID-19 epidemic, MGIUS-R3 was delivered to front line hospitals
2,000 kilometers away, helping doctors to conduct remote diagnosis, effectively
distribute high-quality medical resources, reduce the risk of transmission of
COVID-19 to medical personnel and save the lives of patients. Since February
16, for example, MGIUS-R3 has supported Wuhan’s mobile hospitals -- Huangpi
Cabin Hospital, Leishenshan Hospital (the hospital for critical patients
infected by COVID-19) and Zhongnan Hospital of Wuhan University. The hospitals
on the front line were able to complete diagnoses with the help of remote
experts in hospitals thousands of miles away. The use of the
remote ultrasound system helps distribute high-quality medical resources to aid
resource-constrained areas and enable doctor to conduct remote real-time
diagnosis to overcome the distance limitations of traditional ultrasound
diagnostic methods. Meanwhile, it can also provide professional diagnosis of
rare and critical cases for the front-line clinicians.
