MGI's Sequencers of Different Throughput Went to the Front Line to Help Deal with the Epidemic

Release date:2020-01-29Writer:MGIViews:2162Share

In face of the war against novel coronavirus, MGI’s DNBSEQ series high-throughput sequencers are used in pneumonia prevention phenomena and control such as genome sequence assembly, suspected patient detection, and mutation detection.

DNBSEQ-G400 become one of the first coronavirus genome sequencers to be released

DNBSEQ-G400, as a high-throughput sequencer, is widely used in clinical and scientific research. It plays an important role in sequencing localized data across the country and helping to analyze the genome sequence of the new coronavirus virus.

On December 30, in the earliest batch of 13 new types of coronavirus genome sequence data submitted to the global shared influenza virus database GISAID, 5 cases of data were obtained from MGI's high-throughput sequencer DNBSEQ-G400. The study and analysis of the evolutionary sources and pathogenesis of the new coronavirus in Wuhan provided first-hand information.

Sequence data submitted based on DNBSEQ-G400 technology platform

On January 23, DNBSEQ-G400 played a vital role in the emergency detection in Beijing. After receiving the mission, it quickly built a database and got on the machine, and successfully finished the job at 3 am on January 25. At the same time, In the global shared influenza virus database GISAID, the genome sequence of the new coronavirus has been published up to 26 cases

On January 25th, in a Shenzhen hospital, DNBSEQ-G400 participated in traceability analysis and research to meet the needs of clinical diagnosis and treatment.

On January 27th, DNBSEQ-G400 located in Beijing once again took advantage of its comprehensive flexibility, stable quality, and fast sequencing speed. As a supplement to the nucleic acid detection kit (PCR method), for some samples with low virus content, based on DNBSEQ-G400 high-throughput sequencer for sequencing can improve the positive detection rate and avoid missed detection and false detection; for suspected infection, multiple infections or secondary infection pathogen samples, and DNBSEQ high-throughput sequencer for sequencing, you can perform concurrent testing provides more information about the pathogens that may be infected.

Ultra-high-throughput sequencer DNBSEQ-T7 becomes a large-scale detection equipment

At the end of the year, Wuhan, with the cooperation of the Institute of Microbiology, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Shandong First Medical University, and MGI quickly completed the sequencing of the new coronavirus group.

On January 21, the newly-added DNBSEQ-T7 sequencer was deployed overnight, which can achieve the output from 128 samples to the next report in 128 cases in the fastest time, and the total of each sample obtained by high-throughput sequencing. The number of reads exceeds 100 million reads, which can effectively improve the detection sensitivity of pathogenic microorganisms.

In addition, on January 22, DNBSEQ-G50, a DNBSEQ high-throughput sequencer located in Shanghai, Guangzhou and other places, also completed data update, and the updated database contains new coronavirus sequences.

MGI established a special emergency response team and opened a technical support line

In order to better support the operation of sequencers in various regions, MGI established an emergency response team and opened an emergency technical support line to stand by 24 hours to jointly help the epidemic prevention and control. Equipped with elite forces throughout the country and stand by 24 hours to provide high-throughput. The new coronavirus emergency plan for sequencing methods supports clinical identification and provides diagnostic basis for other coronaviruses and respiratory pathogen infections, including new coronaviruses, to achieve rapid detection of viral sequences, and to provide support for monitoring possible virus mutations.

MGI also opened an emergency technical support line (4000-966-988, press 5 to enter the voice prompt to call), and fully assist the epidemic prevention and control.
